Lieve Snellings is a multi Award-winning Author and a retired freelance photographer who lives in Leuven (Belgium). 

Her series of picture books/children’s books featured with whimsical photo illustrations of wildlife, ‘Margot the Groundhog and Her North-American Squirrel Family’ consists of four books, available in Dutch, English, and French.

Since 2008, after meeting up with her partner who lives in Quebec, you can find her for about five months a year in Canada. There she became a passionate nature photographer. She spent hours, weeks, observing wildlife, and searched every info she could find. The nature photographs she took in Quebec made her publish four children’s books in which photos are as important as words.

Her stories take the traditional picture book experience and transform it by replacing illustrations by her own nature photography. The books are written in her mother tongue Dutch and translated in English and French.

Her images illustrated many books, magazines, and were published online. Her photos were shown in exhibitions all over the world.

Lieve Snellings is een gepensioneerde freelance fotografe die in Leuven (België) woont.

Geboren in 1954 en in 1975 gediplomeerd maatschappelijk werkster. Sinds 1978 tot 2015 werkte ze als dispatcher op de dienst Spoedgevallen van het Universitair Ziekenhuis Gasthuisberg in Leuven, België.

Haar serie kinderboeken ‘Margot de bosmarmot en haar en haar eekhoornfamilie in Noord-Amerika’ telt nu vier boeken, geschreven in het Nederlands en vertaald in het Engels en Frans. Door de illustraties te vervangen door haar eigen, fantasievol bewerkte natuurfotografie transformeert Lieve Snellings de traditionele prentenboekervaring.

In 2008 leerde ze haar partner kennen die heel snel de passie van natuurfotografie wist aan te boren. Nu verblijft Lieve Snellings een 5 maanden per jaar in Quebec. Deze foto’s uit Quebec vormen de basis van haar prentenboeken.

Het is haar droom de schoonheid van de natuur te helpen onthullen zodat kleine en ‘grote’ kinderen ervan kunnen genieten.

Depuis 2008, après avoir rencontré sa partenaire vivant à Château-Richer, Lieve Snellings y réside environ cinq mois par année. À cet endroit, elle est devenue une photographe passionnée de la nature. Elle a passé des heures, des semaines… à observer la faune et à fouiller toutes les informations qu’elle pouvait trouver. Son imagination lui a fait publier des livres pour enfants dans lesquels les photos sont aussi importantes que les mots.

Elle a publié quatre livres primés pour enfants dans le collection ‘Margot, la marmotte commune et sa famille d’écureuils de l’Amérique du Nord’ : 

• Margot reçoit une visite inattendue
• Les Petits Savoirs sur la marmotte commune
• Margot doit aller dormir
• Pourquoi nous portons un masque  –  nouveau !

Ses histoires transforment l’expérience traditionnelle du livre d’images en remplaçant les illustrations par sa propre photographie de nature. Les livres sont écrits dans sa langue maternelle néerlandaise et traduits en anglais et en français.

En 1997, après quatre années d’étude en photographie à l’Académie des Arts de Louvain, elle a commencé à travailler comme freelance en photojournalisme. Son intérêt s’est porté surtout sur le thème des femmes, le tiers-monde et les mouvements de la paix et de LGTB. De nombreux magazines et livres ont publié mes oeuvres. Ses photos ont été exposées dans plusieurs villes en Belgique. Aussi à Amsterdam, Den Haag, Paris, Montevideo, New York, Zürich, San Francisco, Nijmegen, Zagreb, Belgrade, St Petersburg, Ljublijana et Cape Town.

En 2010, Lieve Snellings a été nominée Femme de Paix en Belgique.
